Population health trends for 2022 will focus on further innovations around telehealth, eliminating barriers to care, and closing healthcare disparity gaps.
Providers and payers have seen the benefits of virtual care to prevent the spread of disease during the pandemic. They also discovered other advantages such as lower cost of care and increased patient satisfaction. Many virtual programs launched out of necessity have been made permanent, such as chronic disease treatment, digital medication adherence, and even technology-enabled in-home care.
One additional incentive for the adoption of new telehealth programs is financial. New remote therapeutic monitoring (RTM) codes will provide reimbursement to healthcare providers for caring for vulnerable populations, removing barriers to access, and improving outcomes in between office visits.
