
COVID-19 clearly paved the way for a digital-first revolution in healthcare. The hoped-for results are increases in access, greater patient engagement, and reductions in inequities.
The good news for providers is that more types of virtual care are now reimbursable under CMS rules. For instance, new reimbursement codes for Remote Therapeutic Monitoring (RTM) took effect on January 1st. These new codes reimburse providers for the collection and monitoring of therapy adherence and response data along with treatment management services — including taking medication properly. At the same time, one area that has not progressed as quickly is the use of artificial intelligence in virtual care.
